Strippy Star

27 05 2010

I made this piece as a hostess gift.  I pieced seven-inch blocks with half inch strips on a foundation of muslin.  I then cut the completed blocks on a diagonal and joined them with half square triangles.  That called for a pieced border of the brightest colors,  and, framed in black, makes this a jewel of a piece.  It is an off-shoot of a much larger quilt on the same theme.

Asian Panel

27 05 2010

This quilt was created as a dining room wall hanging for  my daughter Larisa and her husband Peter.  They requested a horizontal piece. I found some Asian panels that I cut and incorporated into a sea of small squares in blacks and bright Asian prints. The panels reflect aspects of their life and their interests.  Gardens, planting, and tea.

Multi-Star

25 05 2010

Here is another version of the “sew and flip” quilt, using a totally different color context.  These were all scrap pieces from former quilt projects.  By adding the strips  randomly, an entirely unique piece is created.  It has a livelier feel than the cool ice blue star elsewhere in this website.

Thimbles

24 05 2010

This small quilt came about as I wondered what I could do with all my smallest scraps.  I pulled out a pile of bits and pieces, placed them on a small turn-about cutting mat and started slicing thimble shaped pieces just slightly larger than a penny.  After I had several piles of them, I just started sewing rows.

Charming

11 05 2010

This quilt was started in a class of one-patch designs.  I selected the square, with smaller squares triangulated off the corners.  There are no repeats in the blocks, and the amazing variety of colors and patterns, a true scrappy quilt, is mesmerizing.  You can study this one for hours. I used multi-colored thread in the quilting, an all-over meander.

Baby Dots 1

6 05 2010

This child’s quilt is perfect for crib, stroller, car, or Grandma’s house.   The colors are bright, the pattern simple, and children can learn their colors by playing on it.  I found a collection of polka dot fabrics in so many colors, I had to make something that used all of them.

Pinwheel Set

9 04 2010

This pair of ornamental quilts is a study in dimension.  The high contrast colors of red, black and cream make pinwheels with lots of motion.  Hang one on a wall and place its mate on a table to bring drama to the dining room.

Tumbling Blocks

9 04 2010

This is a fun, bright colored quilt to perk up any bedroom.  I used yellow, green and red to dominate the design.  Watching for the “light source direction” in the placement of the blocks creates the illusion of a stack of a child’s building blocks.
