Square in a Square …

1 06 2014

If you like squares, you will really like this quilt., a square in a square in a square in a square. The process of “paper foundation piecing” assures that all the points are sharp and accurate. I used four colors:  red, green, cream and black in various combinations for the blocks. Almost Christmas – but without holiday themes. Small scale prints give sufficient variety, without any one becoming dominant. Sashing the blocks in red sets off the individual motifs, and keeps the cream from overwhelming the quilt. A few wide borders completes the design.

Holiday Table Runners

31 05 2014

At Christmas time, I get to sewing gifts for family and friends, and every hostess loves to receive a hand made gift for her table.  Here are a few of the ones I made for 2013. Using bright red and green, or an array of frosty blues, or muted earth tones, one can create a great variety of thematic holiday table dressings.

Winter/Holiday Placemats

28 10 2010

These sweet holiday placemats come in sets of four.  The winter scenes are outline-quilted to define all the critical lines of the images.  The sky portions are free motion quilted to give a sense of moving air, and smoke emanating from the little chimneys. They are backed with a dainty white-on-white floral print.

Snowmen

27 05 2010

This winter scene of snowman mixed with glistening ice blues is a lovely holiday piece of home decor.  I made it for my niece who has a passion for snowmen.  It is a simple design, with strip sets of the blues cut into bands and joined together, set between bands of snowmen.

Holiday Railfence

9 04 2010

This bright darling of a quilt can be used as a table runner, a wall hanging, or to decorate a banister, or  grace the back of your favorite chair during the holidays.  Red and black dominate, with added greens, golds, and creams.

Vicky’s Pinwheel

6 04 2010

This table runner was made of triangles in the Christmas colors of red, green, and cream.  Five pinwheels align, alternating bright and subdued colorways.  Pieced borders and dedcorative stitching complete the piece.

Christmas Table Topper

5 04 2010

This piece in red, black, cream has smaller details of green and gold.  This simple project is great for beginning quilters as it uses squares, outline quilting and decorative stitching

Christmas Table Runner

Holiday time sparks energy for creating Christmas gifts.  This table topper is comprised of triangles of greens and reds and creams, set in a diagonal pattern.  The simple hourglass, or pinwheel,  block is used here to dynamic effect.
