LeMoyne Stars

1 06 2014

This quilt grew out of a set of fat quarters with alternating patterns in soft red and slate blue.  I decided on eight point stars to illustrate the alternating color ways of each fabric.  I used black as the foil to set them off,  used red as the inner border and black again for the outer.  It is a piece with lots of drama.  I added black/grey yo-yos in the center of the stars.

Imperial Diamonds

31 05 2014

I made this quilt Called “Imperial Diamonds” for my sister Rita and her spouse, Christine.  The design is by Jean Nolte, editor of Love of Quilting Magazine.  It is loaded with different batik squares, all different.  The wide borders are of a really intensely colorful batik, which draws all the colors of the smaller squares.  The center  was long-arm quilted by Melanie Vaughn of City Quilter, and I did the outer parts.  I can’t manage a king-sized quilt on my home machine very well.

Red Diamonds

21 10 2010

This quilt features numerous patterns in reds and creams.  Based on dissected rectangles, alternating red and cream rows  create this very  bold piece.  The wide border in a floral pattern using the colors of the diamonds gives it a strong frame.  I was fortunate in finding a backing fabric with the same color range as the border, in a luscious paisley pattern.

Eight Pointed Star

11 05 2010

A class in “setting in corners” yielded these pieces.  I chose high contrast colors to set up the stars.  The table runner is a study from class.  The lone star was a hostess gift to our friends Grete and Helmut.  Each new technique adds to a quilters arsenal from which to draw inspiration for future projects.

Tumbling Blocks

9 04 2010

This is a fun, bright colored quilt to perk up any bedroom.  I used yellow, green and red to dominate the design.  Watching for the “light source direction” in the placement of the blocks creates the illusion of a stack of a child’s building blocks.
