Solstice 1

6 05 2010

My daughter commissioned a wall hanging quilt for her living room in California.  I decided on a drunkards path pattern, in muted pinks, blues, tans, reds, containing lots of birds and flowers, and a splash or two of black.  I added a doily crocheted by her great grandmother, as the “moon”,  an homage to the lady who taught my daughter how to crochet.  The room where this quilt hangs has a glass wall looking out over a magnificent native garden which host birds of all sorts.

Canoe Island Flying Geese

6 05 2010

This pictorial quilt grew out of a jelly roll  (2 – 1/2 inch strips) and matching five-inch charms.  The pattern idea came from a Nancy’s Notions catalog.  The blend of earth tones, and nature theme are all harmony.  The black is a luscious print that coordinates with the top.

Baby Dots 1

6 05 2010

This child’s quilt is perfect for crib, stroller, car, or Grandma’s house.   The colors are bright, the pattern simple, and children can learn their colors by playing on it.  I found a collection of polka dot fabrics in so many colors, I had to make something that used all of them.

Pinwheel Set

9 04 2010

This pair of ornamental quilts is a study in dimension.  The high contrast colors of red, black and cream make pinwheels with lots of motion.  Hang one on a wall and place its mate on a table to bring drama to the dining room.

Holiday Railfence

9 04 2010

This bright darling of a quilt can be used as a table runner, a wall hanging, or to decorate a banister, or  grace the back of your favorite chair during the holidays.  Red and black dominate, with added greens, golds, and creams.

Tumbling Blocks

9 04 2010

This is a fun, bright colored quilt to perk up any bedroom.  I used yellow, green and red to dominate the design.  Watching for the “light source direction” in the placement of the blocks creates the illusion of a stack of a child’s building blocks.

Plaid Tumblers

6 04 2010

This warm and cozy quilt was made from tumbler shaped pieces, in a large vareity of home spun plaids.  The soft edge created by the piece shapes is enhanced with bias binding.

Vicky’s Pinwheel

6 04 2010

This table runner was made of triangles in the Christmas colors of red, green, and cream.  Five pinwheels align, alternating bright and subdued colorways.  Pieced borders and dedcorative stitching complete the piece.

Baby Jewel

6 04 2010

This sweet quilt was a gift for a baby girl.  Its stair-step pattern staggers the soft pinks and greens on a diagonal in alternating colors.  Stitching around the border creats the illusion of a pieced border.

Baby Rattles

5 04 2010

This is an example of a one block quilt.  I used a collection of 1930’s reproduction prints in an assortment of colors and patterns to create a baby quilt that is all softness.  I took all my clues from the curved shape of the pieces.
