This crazy quilt evolved over many years, as I kept adding embroidery, beading, buttons, and bows, braid, lace, and charms. The panels were done as individual twelve-inch blocks, and it was hard to finally stop, deciding when “enough” was “enough”. That’s the thing about crazy quilts! I decided to join the blocks with dark green grosgrain ribbon, and back it with black velvet. It is now a wall hanging.

Outer Space
31 05 2014This bright quilt was made for my grandson Estifanos, who at a very young age, was fascinated with the moon. I found a panel of fifteen different space images, cut it up into individual pictures. I selected vivid primary colored prints of suns and stars for the frames, and sashing, and finished with an over all yellow backing of suns. It is out of this world, and he loves it.

STRING QUILTS or Five Easy Pieces

When my scrap bag gets too stuffed, and I can’t fit any more quilting leftovers into it, I schedule a “scrap quilting” day. I clear the deck, dump out all the scraps onto the table, cut a pile of muslin foundation squares, and go to work. Taking random sized strips, and bizarre color combinations, I start sewing and flipping, making at least four of the same kind of pattern. When put together, the blocks form very interesting mini quilts. I use them for hostess gifts, ladies’ club raffles, or hang them in rotation in my house.

Solstice 1
6 05 2010My daughter commissioned a wall hanging quilt for her living room in California. I decided on a drunkards path pattern, in muted pinks, blues, tans, reds, containing lots of birds and flowers, and a splash or two of black. I added a doily crocheted by her great grandmother, as the “moon”, an homage to the lady who taught my daughter how to crochet. The room where this quilt hangs has a glass wall looking out over a magnificent native garden which host birds of all sorts.

Baby Dots 1
6 05 2010This child’s quilt is perfect for crib, stroller, car, or Grandma’s house. The colors are bright, the pattern simple, and children can learn their colors by playing on it. I found a collection of polka dot fabrics in so many colors, I had to make something that used all of them.
