Tumbling Blocks

9 04 2010

This is a fun, bright colored quilt to perk up any bedroom.  I used yellow, green and red to dominate the design.  Watching for the “light source direction” in the placement of the blocks creates the illusion of a stack of a child’s building blocks.

Plaid Tumblers

6 04 2010

This warm and cozy quilt was made from tumbler shaped pieces, in a large vareity of home spun plaids.  The soft edge created by the piece shapes is enhanced with bias binding.

Vicky’s Pinwheel

6 04 2010

This table runner was made of triangles in the Christmas colors of red, green, and cream.  Five pinwheels align, alternating bright and subdued colorways.  Pieced borders and dedcorative stitching complete the piece.

Baby Jewel

6 04 2010

This sweet quilt was a gift for a baby girl.  Its stair-step pattern staggers the soft pinks and greens on a diagonal in alternating colors.  Stitching around the border creats the illusion of a pieced border.

Baby Rattles

5 04 2010

This is an example of a one block quilt.  I used a collection of 1930’s reproduction prints in an assortment of colors and patterns to create a baby quilt that is all softness.  I took all my clues from the curved shape of the pieces.

Christmas Table Topper

5 04 2010

This piece in red, black, cream has smaller details of green and gold.  This simple project is great for beginning quilters as it uses squares, outline quilting and decorative stitching

Red Stars

5 04 2010

Quilt made of two-inch squares of high-contrast colors of cream and red.  The stars are created by small patches of red, in a field of cream colored shirting fabrics.  The stars themselves are boldly hand quilted.

Harvest Squares

5 04 2010

This quilt was made for a raffle at the school where I worked.  Constructed of squares, in autumn colors. It is arranged on a diagonal to give a sense of direction and flow.  The piece was a hit and made lots of money for the school.

Katie K Railfence

5 04 2010

A soft pink and green railfence quilt for a new baby.  The range of tones in the two chosen colors create movement and dynamics in this top.  Railfence quilts are fun and easy to do.

Christmas Table Runner

5 04 2010

Holiday time sparks energy for creating Christmas gifts.  This table topper is comprised of triangles of greens and reds and creams, set in a diagonal pattern.  The simple hourglass, or pinwheel,  block is used here to dynamic effect.
